JohnsonDiversey International Food Safety InitiativeThe United States imported more than $58 billion in food in 2004. The amount rises every year. Additionally, food-borne pathogens are a real and growing threat. JIFSAN’s approach to this problem is to offer training to producers to address the contamination problem at it’s source. The establishment of the JohnsonDiversey International Food Safety Initiative will provide a series of training programs to those producers and is designed to develop a group of in-country trainers who can promulgate the lessons learned. Through JDIFSI, we will offer training sessions in exporting countries for local trainers on the latest knowledge and practices in food safety. The initiative is a partnership involving three key components of food safety: science, regulation, and application. JIFSAN represents science and regulatory considerations. JohnsonDiversey, Inc., a food safety and hygiene solutions provider, represents critical applications. Programs will be offered in a variety of countries and will deal with a range of important food commodities. JDIFSI has participated in the JIFSAN GAPs program and in the JIFSAN WTO-SPS Professional Development Program and is providing funding for new initiatives. The first of these is the Good Aquacultural Practices training program.
